How wide are your bars? I have 52" Yakima bars, which are wide enough to carry a flat 17' canoe and at least one or two upright bikes. Not sure if I've ever seen a way to mount a canoe on its side. I should mention that my bars also have the hi-rise lifts on the clamps so they clear the roof.
