I've had 2+ Engine 1 '85 1.9 1985 - 1992 ~120,000, head gasket, rebuilt 1992 - 2001 ~ 170,000 low compression and deferred maintenance did the rebuild in. Engine 2 '87 2.1 Not mine the whole way, but my current westy has 96000 and a broken Odometer. I'm guessing that is has < 110,000 miles. I'm not everyone, but with some maintenance and perhaps luck, they have done ok for me. No, not as much power nor the simple diagnostics of an OBD engine, but as long as its working, it's cheaper than the alternatives.
