 wish I could say the same about the cruise control, which continues to give me intermittent fits.
  _This time_ I'm be needing a new connecting rod, part number 025130365,
which keeps popping off the ball on the throttle end.

I had good luck drilling a snug fitting hole in the piece that clicks onto the ball.  I flipped it over (convex side down) and snapped it back in place and it hasn't popped off since.
