When I got my '84 the pump was really noisy, loud even, it was a new pump too (the PO told me). When I took a look at it he had some type of sound deadening material wrapped around it. A filter change did not help. A new tank fixed the pump noise, now when it gets a little noisy I change the white square stock filter & the pump is quiet again. I cut the old tank open & took pictures. http://s197.photobucket.com/albums/aa190/becida/84%20Fuel%20tank/ I found nothing inside the tank. Someone later showed me a Samba picture of the tank with a big screen one the sump that mine didn't have.
