Interesting.

The tank that came out of my '81 and the new Brazilian tank have very similar insides:

I have no idea if my old tank was OEM but it may have been.

Maybe there was a crossover of sorts happening around '84 involving both types of tanks?

Or maybe with the diesel option in the earlier MY Vanagons, the tank didn't require a filter?
