Just something to toss in the pot - gauges mounted face-up in the instrument panel cover, rotated such that the high end of the scale is toward the driver, with an angled mirror above them for viewing. Lettering might be odd but the up-is-more convention should avoid mirror-image confusions.

<mod hat> This is the Van-a-gon list. It's for talking about Van-a-gon things, gauges, people, activities, trips, gauges, get-togethers, modifications, troubles, triumphs, gauges, woes, blisses, gauges, camping, driving, traveling, working, playing, living in, crawling under, gauges, leaning over, using, abusing, being used and abused by, loving them, hating them, collecting them, keeping them bone stock and worth millions one day, driving them to death and the many uses of 90-mile-an-hour tape, gauges, anything but being indifferent to them. And being ugly to one another. Did I mention gauges? ;-) </mod hat>

Yours, David
