I have one gallon polyethylene bottles, considerably heavier than those that milk and other consumer fluids come in. I fill them 3/4 full of water, freeze them, and use them in an ice chest. Foods and beverages stay cold and dry for 3-4 days during summer temperatures. I usually put 3 or 3 bottles in the box, depending on the amount of stuff, and how hot it is out.

But I sure do like using the Dometic for some reason. And of course, one propane charge will last about 3 weeks for refrigerator and cooking.

Once on the road for several days, and with no where to refreeze my bottles, I have to buy ice if I want an ice chest. I try at least to get block ice, which lasts longer, but in some places it does not seem to be available. The worst is if the only ice available is from convenience stores that freeze their own. That ice is not cold enough.
