Tom, The advice to switch to digest mode is valid, but you will soon learn that there are a number of list members who don't seem to understand that the ListServe program that manages the mailing list requires that messages be sent in plain text to work properly.

When you receive the emails one-by-one, the ListServe just passes them along and mostly they come through just fine. In Digest mode, the emails are archived, and then periodically batched for the Digest email. The Listserve archive can't translate some of the non-plain-text messages, and passes along all the formatting symbols in some of the other messages, rendering them a nuisance to read.

Unfortunately, if the list members who send these non-plain-text messages do not subscribe to digest mode, or never access the archives, they don't see the gobbledygook they create.
