Just in case anyone believes this is a new discussion .....

transaxile gear oil: GL-5 vs GL-4

Wed Jan 2, 2002 2:17 pm | • Options • • • Need information regarding the use of GL-4 or GL-5 as gear oil and damage to the syncro in the transaxile. Been told by Amsoil that if the GL-5 oil has a API MT-1 spec there is no problem with using it. Also been told by Redline only use GL-4.

Amsoil stated the difference between the two are the EP additives, GL- 5 have 50% more, these EP additive will corrode the gear syncros, but GL-5 with a MT-1 spec have additives to prevent this damage.

Does any one know more about this subject? (end paste)

Ya, that's over 10 years ago. ;-)
