I was referring to the cost savings and simplicity of the use of threaded holes for the lugs, rather than fitting studs to a one piece hub/rotor design. With studs added to a one piece setup we would have to move studs over to replacement rotors or replacement rotors would have to include new studs.

VW switched to separate front hubs and rotors in the last T3 production in RSA along with 15" wheels. Lots of people have upgraded to this setup. It would have been nice if that was how they came in our models.
