As far as I can tell, 1 7/8" ball w/ correct trailer attachment for same & I couldn't pull it off when tugging up on it w/ lock in place, but the trailer is very light & the suspension is stiff, so when it is empty & hits something that causes the whole trailer to bounce in the air, it can come off! Put a load in it or drive on smooth roads, no problemo. I've had this trailer for 7-8 years & been coast to coast w/ it, but always loaded. This time we went empty to pick up stuff, & that's when the issue occurred.

I think I will replace the lock mechanism & see if it makes a difference?

YMMV,

Mr. BZ-what goes up must come down or off.
