Thanks Dennis, now that makes sense, though you don't seem to be basing it on specific data. But you mostly know what you are doing, and after market products often are inferior in quality. I'll trust your experience. I do have a good breaker bar. But, I think I'll either buy or work out a tool for hanging the wheel on the hub. Might come in handy some time. mcneely

Most aftermarket studs do not have enough thread under the shoulder to go all the way through and I find them to be of questionable quality both material and thread tolerance. I just don't trust them. For changing wheels/tires road side there is nothing like have a quality breaker bar and socket. The bar makes a great lever to lift the tire to get the first bolt started. > > Dennis > > -----Original Message----- > From: Vanagon Mailing List [mailto:vanagon@gerry.vanagon.com] On Behalf Of Dave Mcneely > Sent: Tuesday, August 28, 2012 2:33 PM > To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM > Subject: Re: Putting on tires: three hands > > So, these appears to be a reasonable approach to solving the problem. I don't think the engineers were just dumb, but I don't know why they went as they did.
