The ones that have formed ridges with no slots in the band are the best, but are harder to find and more expensive. Another important factor is the rounded (curled up) edges so the edge of the band can't cut into the outer jacket of the hose. The original Oetiker clamps conforms to all of these features, with the additional feature of having "self-adjusting" tension (although somewhat limited). Screw clamps must be manually retightened slightly every so often to compensate for the hose taking a crush over time, or they become loose and may leak on a high pressure connection like fuel injection lines.
