Hello, I have a 1986 Vanagon 2.1 engine and last night the main pulley disconnected. It appears the bolt backed out. As I was driving along I noticed the battery light came on and the engine temp and when I pulled over and looked inside the engine was overheating and the main belt pulley had backed out and the belts were no longer doing there job. I able to tightened the bolt back in, however when I started the engine and then came back to look the bolt had come back out. Needless to say I had to have it towed home and by that time it was late so tonight after work I plan on having a closer look at it. Wondering if anyone has anyone ever experienced this? Last week it was axle bolts and this week engine pulley bolts...I'm certainly getting to know the vehicle. I'm new to vanagons and this discussion forum is a big help! Thanks, Bob A |
