Assuming your drive shafts are still connected..... :)
Engine off, parking brake on etc. (safety first!) get helper or make
video with a cell phone or ?, and watch if shift lever at transmission

a distinct pattern:
Wiggling in neutral: lever ~ vertical, moves in/out.
1st: In toward driver side & back
2nd: Still in but moves forward
3rd: Out to pass. side & back
4th: Still out but forward
You should also hear the gears make an audible "clunk" as shifter
moves from gear to neutral to gear.
If that's ok and you feel a distinct "H" pattern at shifter in cab, < shrugs >
And FWIW, here's an image of the internal parts Dennis speaks of:
Air cooled transmission, (this aspect same as WBX transmission).
