I have quite a bit of experience with diesel Vanagons, my family having owned about 10 of them and my having swapped motors in all of those at least once, some 3 or 4 times. I have a bunch of complete DV engines sitting here on carts. I move them around way too much.

Merely weighing the various parts doesn't take into account their lateral distances from the crank center line when installed. The engine assembly is way off balance to the left. As I said I don't know how the overall vehicle balance is affected since the heavy battery and other items are on the right. I don't consider it much of a problem either way.
