Apologies, the car is 1984 June Vanagon camper. The direct wire seems to work but I'm worried, I may have excluded something that way. Zoltan

You forgot to mention what year it is and the wiring from the alternator to the battery changed a bit over time. For WBX vans it never is a direct wire, it always makes a few stops or detours, depending on the year. At the battery end the charging wire is the large battery cable from the starter to the battery. The large cable is the starting cable during starting and then it becomes the charging cable after the engine is running.
