Exactly. I just took some photos of an inline VW engine that had been installed using diesel parts, now out of the van. I first leveled it with a level side to side and then a friend held a string so it hung down to the center of the crankshaft. It is clear that most of the heaviest stuff is way off to one side and the little bit on the other side is mostly light aluminum. It is no wonder that people think doing such a conversion would make the van heavier on the left side than any boxer engine conversion would.
