Izzat an autotranny?  More expensive cable and more difficult replacement,
IIRC.  But still!

Is it too late to move it to another shop?

|Gas pedal was acting funny for a few days. Take off from rest
|real slow. Should have looked at it, but didn't. Today
|entering a freeway the pedal went to the floor and I barely
|moved, van just idled. Managed to pull over to the left in the
|triangular area between the freeway and the on-ramp. Waited an
|hour for AAA. Fortunately my a/c saved me in the 100 degree AZ
|heat. Got towed to a close by but non-VW shop. They say it's a
|broken cable and will be $250 and 2 days to fix. Expensive
|cable. Think its time to get my belts replaced. I'm on a run
|of bad luck.
