The inline-4 is not the cause of Westy lean-the camper package is. .I drove a 87 Westy this summer that has more lean than the Tower of Pizza. The engine in the FAS kit looks to be a New Beetle engine or VW model 1999 and later. These are 2 liters and would be around 115 hp. With the 5-speed trans in mine, it does well. Keeps up with traffic, good mpg too. I have been wondering if the 2012 New Beetle's 170 hp inline 5 would fit? http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/coupes/1110_2012_volkswagen_beetle_and_beetle_turbo_first_test/ That would be nice.

The 2l from FAS looks as if it could be a very nice package but I'm wondering what the HP is ~ they don't seem to

want to mention that. The 2 biggest down issues I have with it is that it is not a Boxer ( I'm kinda in to those when it is

for my Vanagon ) & again most of the weight ends up on the DriversSide where you already always have the drivers Lbs

& in the case of a Westy you have all those WestyStuffLbs as well.

As far as using it just because it's a VW engine ~ I can't see any good reason for that to be an influence. Now if was

one of those SuperTurboDiesels that are running around Europe getting a BazzillionMPG ~ that would be worth a look.
