I can't find it right now, but there is a thread somewhere in the Vanagon/EV forum on thesamba.com about whether or not the 2.5 NA 5 cylinder could be swapped in.

It seemed to me that the general opine was that it would be a huge amount of work to adapt even just the engine management. Pretty sure it's all CAN-BUS.

But a 2.5 with turbo? Yup.
