One simple test you could do it turn the key to 'on' .... and listen for the fuel pump to run a few seconds and shut off.

People really should start their vans by turning the key to 'on' first ...check warning lights ( the owner's manual says to do this I believe ) ...........and also listen for the fuel pump to run a few seconds and shut off, then also. if it doesn't do that ....that would be one place to start ..fuel pump operation.

I don't think I've seen an ignition switch do this especially.. but they are somewhat underbuilt ( the electrical part ) and if it's 20 yrs old, it's suspect .

another easy test ..check for 12 volts on terminal 15 of the coil while engine is cranking on the starter.

also consider that it might be flooded. there..that fits the symptom. check for that. Old plug wires, plug gaps a little big .....that'll produce your symptom.
