check pg. 2, "NOTE '86-'91" of that pdf.
If yours doesn't have that part, it's '85 or older. Maybe that will allow tach use on Bostig?
There's also a "NOTE" on pg. 1 near bottom of page re: 85 cluster and tach. This may help too.
Also noted. Up to '84, pin 1 on 14 pin connector is vacant. On '85 + and '84 Wolfsburg pin 1 is used. The foil on your cluster may have a copper trace going to where pin 1 connects, but if you trace that connector with a VOM, or even a visual trace, this might help determine if it's used or not.
Also, vagcat.com can help. If you have a PN. Site requires you to sign up, but that's easy.
Neil.

Hello,
I have an instrument cluster I bought from someone off the list YEARS ago. Thing is, I can't remember if it is 84,85,86 cluster. It has TACH. any way to know what year it is from? The reason I asked is I have a bostig conversion and want to upgrade to this cluster to get the TACH in dash. I also need to know if 84,85 or 86 as 84 and 85 do not require Bostig's TACH modification as the 86 and newer does.
Thanks
