But, long ago, I began carrying a spare set of keys for vehicles because I had more than one time locked the keys inside. I even once when in the field for working removed all objects from my pockets before going into the water. I was many miles down a dirt road. Well, among the objects were the ignition keys. I locked them in the trunk.
Of course, VW took care of that one, by requiring a key to lock the driver's side door.
That didn't help me when I left the gas cap with keys on top of the gas pump just outside Glacier National Park and drove sixty miles before I knew what I had done. Drove back, and there was the gas cap with keys. That didn't teach me, I still leave the keys in the gas cap, but usually I place it on the passenger side floor -- not always.
