Casey, I didn't want to change the IRS suspension. With the engine gone, there is a nice open space between the wheels. I've seen one of these modified with a ramp to use the space to transport a scooter. Besides, retaining the suspension as-is is free compared to installing a solid axle with leaf springs. It's not like I'm really going to use the trailer for serious hauling.:-)
