Continental and VW no longer manufacture 9.5mm belts (except the
9.5x905 [111 903 137 D] for the 61-73 1/2 Beetles, Ghias and Buses
thru 71). At least 12 years ago, Belt manufacturers agreed to an
industry-wide standard upping the size to 10mm.
In fact VW went to an 11.3x912 (111 903 137 E) belt when they
transition the Beetle/Ghia to the alternator in the middle of 73, but
the pulleys did not change as per VW. I use this on all alternator
conversions I've done on my Beetles I've owned.
I've had no problem using the 10x1110 Continental belt on both my
Vanagons, nor any problem with the Gates 7430 when I had to do an
emergency replacement several years ago on that lonely stretch of I-5
between LA and Stockton. But I reinstalled a 10mm Conti Belt shortly
afterward.
