My most dumb error (so far, knock on wood) is when my parents, my son and I used to travel together and my dad had a spare key to my van (and me to his). We drove off one day after gassing up on I-5 north of Bakersfield, intent on a trip to the desert. My dad had used his key in the filler cap so naturally we forgot it, but fortunately remembered while crossing the freeway overpass so were able to turn around and go get it.
