Thanks Alistair, Beautiful write-up, as usual. So on one read, sounds like Bentley (and Haynes) is wrong and that spacer does NOT come out through the bearing. But you're saying that you CAN get a drift to the INNER bearing outer race by shoving the spacer to the side. I'll try that tomorrow, I'm much too full of Tequila to touch any of it tonight. Thanks again ...
