I put one of those on a Saturn car once..
worked just fine. Only cost about $ 55 I think.
I suppose one could put one on a Vanagon ..
Never found the need to though myself.
Stock system works just fine.
I think it's a little odd the sender is in the rad instead of the engine
where the coolant is the hottest,
but it still works just fine.
