Yeah I did this when I did my head gaskets 4 years ago... my cylinders were stuck like yours so they had to come out and the engine was still in the vehicle.

Since it was so long ago I don't remember exactly what I did... but I think I may have already had a nut on that end that was small enough to go through the pin, but then could catch on the side (by shifting the threaded rod over) to pull the pin out. I don't remember if I used a washer there or not.
