I went for the whole enchilada with my LP tanks:

1981 which c/w a newer style regulator. Images: ID tag falling off http://tinyurl.com/9sb6jq2 crap behind ID tag http://tinyurl.com/9r9uv6l pitting http://tinyurl.com/8rbk2t4

1988: http://tinyurl.com/8o6qcpw Pretty sure that was the OEM regulator/valve.

Tank condition will vary as will opinions on tank refurbishing, but it was my preference to replace them. I saved money by:

- ordering tank from busdepot. RV shops I asked were ready to charge nearly double for that part. - removing old, hanging new tank.

Got shop to install regulator and run new lines (sometimes old lines can be repositioned to fit the new parts)

At the very least would suggest replacing the OEM regulator and revalveing tank.

A lot of info in the archives on propane tanks.

Neil.
