Additionally .. I'm pretty sure the fuel pump runs while the starter is cranking .. which means it's running but you can't heat it due to the noise of the starter cranking the engine. re 'prime' ....it should hold fuel pressure nicely after the engine is shut off. If fuel residual fuel pressure bleeds off , say after a few days .. just a short period of starter cranking should be enough to get fuel pressure going enough to fire up the engine. After that .. fuel pump running is maintained by contacts in the air flow meter I believe. This is to provide a feature where if there's a crash, and the engine is stalled, but ignition is on still, fuel pump will not run. You can test this feature by intentionally stalling the engine. The fuel pump should not stay running. with stalled engine, key still on.
