Never on the outside ,Unless it is glued in as the late models were
. They were glued from the rubber to the glass and then the rubber to the
body . Those were always a bitch to get out . Cut the lip from the inside
with a sharp razor ,essentially cutting off the lip that pulls over the
body . You really only have to cut the top and sides and the bottom will
just lift out .
I prefer this method as you do not take a chance of cutting the
paint on the outside ,under the rubber . If you do cut the paint while
using a knife be sure to get some Paint on it ,not just primer . As long as
you have good paint you will keep the rust at bay . Once there is raw metal
the wet dirt sits there and induces rust .
I worked on a car today that had had a glass replaced early in its
life and the scratches were not covered and the rust consumed the entire
face of the pinch weld .
If you are not saving the glass or the seal .it is a good time to
practice removing it by just using gentle force from the inside.
