Yes, it is most likely either the ECU or the hall effect sensor in the
distributor that is failing. If you have a known good ECU that you can
swap in that is the best way to troubleshoot it. You can use any ECU
from 86-91. If it fixes the problem then he needs a new ECU. We have
rebuilt ones for $250. If the ECU doesn't fix it then it is most likely
the Hall Sensor in the distributor. That sends the pulse that keeps the
fuel pump running and also tells the ECU when to fire the injectors.
