Glad you enjoy the blog Doug, always nice to hear that people take the time to read along.

Here's what I did for the gauges: CIP1 parts: • 1 of : VDO-240-804 - 240804 - RUBBER MOUNTING BRACKETS THREE GAUGES-2-1/16 (52MM) • 1 of : VDO-310-106 - 310106 - BLACK VISION OIL TEMP GAUGE-300F - 2-1/16 (52MM) IN. • 1 of : VDO-323-423 - 323423 - 300 DEGREE OIL TEMP SENDER M10 X 1 - 2-1/16 (52MM) IN. • 1 of : VDO-350-104 - 350104 - BLACK VISION OIL PRESSURE GAUGE-80 PSI 2-1/16 (52MM) • 1 of : VDO-360-006 - 360006 - OIL PRESSURE SENDER 80 PSI-M10 X 1-WITH IDIOT LIGHT I then added an Exhaust Gas Temp gauge and sender that I purchased from Evan (a list member) while in Vermont. I have put the gauge in the mount but not connected it or the sender yet.

The senders were a simple install with the oil pressure replacing the existing one and the dash light connected as before. The oil temp went into the oil cooler. I got a 25' length of 16 gage 3-strand wiring that is meant to withstand being buried (purchased at Canadian Tire) and ran that from the engine compartment to the front using the same path as the main harness. At contact points I used some split wire loom to protect it from abrasion. That idea came from David Etter, who also suggested leaving an extra loop of wire at each end for future use (which I did). All of it is secured with zip-pulls and they are neatly trimmed off. VDO recommends using 14 gage wire for the ground so I got a spool at Home Depot. The gauge +, light + and sender wiring is all 16 gage. the connectors are soldered and heat shrink wrapped (worth the time to do it once and do it right).

To avoid drilling a hole I ran the wire up alongside the heater hose by the passenger left foot area. Jim Wallace helped me get the gauges wired for ground, power and light making a nice and tidy setup. I did have to drill into the dash to mount the gauges but that's not to the outside. You can see a few photos in the Watkins blog entry (http://nextchapter.kraikerphoto.com/2012/09/a-weekend-at-watkins.html).

Then I connected it all up, learning a lot about the wiring and what's inside the dash cluster along the way. When it was done I made a schematic to go along with the diagram I have for the aux. battery & solar setup. If anyone wants a copy send me a pmail and let me know if you want the source powerpoint file or just a pdf for viewing. One things I want to correct in the diagrams is the colour codes for the wires, they should be the same as in Bentley but aren't (only because my Bentley is in the camper rather than by the computer and I keep forgetting to write down the correct abbreviations :-)
