You can drop the tank down from the rear on a floor jack a few inches, letting the front flange hang on the cross member for better access. Often it’s the large crossover pipe seals that leak, and you can’t do them without lowering the tank.

Clamps are not needed, the hoses are a tight fit and the tank is not under pressure since it is vented though the charcoal canister. Make sure that isn’t plugged!

Hi Mike;

Quick answer is Yes, it can be done. You will need skinny arms, bandaids to cover the scratched areas on your arms and wrists, and be able to use tools where you can't see them and have good spacialization skills 'cause you can't see.

I have done it this way. I also have been told that the clamps are optional, due to how tightly they fit the inlet ports, but don't know if I agree.

Good Luck, and you can always drop the tank, which has it's own special joys also.
