At a young age, the space behind the rear seat. At a slightly older age, I faced the front seats toward each other, cut a piece of plywood to size, put it across the front seats, and put a foam mattress on it. (The fold-out half of the top bunk works perfectly if you can score an extra one in a junkyard.) When traveling the plywood slips under the rear mattress so it doesn't take up any space. My 8 year old still sleeps up front, while the rest of us (me, my wife, and our 10 and 14 year old kids) sleep on the two beds in the rear. So in this manner our Westy sleeps five.
