Kevin, it took 20+ years for the original steel pipes to rot out of my `85. IDK if I [let alone the Van] will last another 20. when I lost the section of pipe through the wheelwell , I replaced it with heavy duty heater hose. it won't be dented by errant stones or whatev. it will eventually corrode like anything else ['nothing lasts forever except diamonds and rust']. due to its flexability it was far easier to install. about $9 per foot. that's my story and I'm stickin to it. take care, be well and drive happy ...           =(:D)           mike ________________________________ From: Kevin Gilbert <kggilbert@MYACTV.NET> To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Sent: Thursday, October 18, 2012 8:44 AM Subject: Coolant Hose vs. Coolant Pipe Vanagoneers, Has anyone out there replaced their steel coolant pipes with suitable hose? Is it reliable and durable? Cheaper? Easier to install? I have a standing order for steel, but my vendor friends won't have pipes in stock for several months, and I'm exploring alternatives. Thanks. Kevin
