The other thing I see happen is when they are run loose or even ) lash the snap rings can get hammered. Then when the rockers are removed the inside pieces fall out and into the engine. Good luck fishing them out.

There are no seals inside those lifters. It's the metal that wears and the ends get dished. You can disassemble and clean them and maybe get more life out of them but really a good rebuild needs new ones.
