Sounds like the way my van behaved when the Hall Sensor in the distributor went bad. I could restart it over and over but then it would randomly die out. When it stopped it was like someone shut the key off, tach dropped to zero. If I was still rolling I would pop the clutch and restart but then it would die out again after a minute or two. A new Hall Sensor fixed the problem for good. Let me know if you want to purchase one as I can do that for you or I could rebuild a used distributor here with a new Hall Sensor and do that for you as well. The sensor is $149, the rebuilt distributor (old distributor with new hall sensor installed) I would do for $199.
