Last Friday morning I was enjoying myself, camped in a state wildlife management area (up a long steep hill & 7 miles from a paved road) in the mountains above Beckley, WV. I was on a leisurely meander north from Florida to my stationary abode in Liberty, Maine. I got a call letting me know that a big storm was on the way, that the beavers had again filled the culvert on my road with a new dam and if I didn't want my road to wash out I'd better come back and do something about it. I dropped my leisurely five week long 'blue highways' meander, got on the big highways and headed for Maine. Arrived safely Sunday noon, put on my wetsuit and within hours had cleaned out the beaver dam and waited for the storm. I love extreme weather! If I wanted extreme weather I should have stayed in Beckley, WV - they got a foot of snow. In Liberty the storm hasn't been much - a lot of rain and some wind but no power outage and no road wash out. I hope to be back on the road in a few weeks. I hope others fair as well as I did.
