Not gloating here, but over the years I have spent money on a battery back up system, a gas generator, water sensing pumps that kick on if water gets in my basement (which it usually does) and a snow blower (Don't think Sandy will make me get that out, but if I were just a few miles more west of here i would) It is a royal PITA to maintain all this stuff, but it is times like this that make it all worthwhile.
