Hhe says 'end play.'

right now my thinking is it could be related tothe splined junction .. like the2 shafts are not screwed well together.. .......or perhaps main shaft bearing loose in the case.

if it's 1/4 inch I'd say that's not right. Pull the bell housing and take the splined junction apart.. then see what end play is on the main shaft. I don't thinkthere should be anything like up to 1/4 inch.
