That oil pan/block pattern is used in ALL VW inline fours, gas and diesel .. from about 1975 to 1998 ...most conveniently. After thatthey finally changed the basic block architecture, and the pan sealing surface pattern is different.

and option, besides just a pan gasket, is a windage tray with rubber pan gasket built right on. Re-usuable even. All 1.9diesels usually run one. Don't see where it would hurt a 1.6 - though rather unnecessary in a 1.6 NA I'd think.
