Impressive indeed, but such longevity is not limited to the VW diesel engines. I went 300K+ miles in both an '85 Nissan 2.4L gas pickup (also on the original clutch) and a '95 Dodge Caravan with the 3.0L Mitsubishi gas V6.
My own interest in the VW diesel is pretty strong and that might be our next car purchase, if only for the "alt fuel" possibilities.
