Earlier this year a man moving to Alaska got off of the Ferry in Whittier
and followed his GPS directions right down the ramp into the boat harbor.
He had to be rescued as the car was fully submerged before he knew what
had happened, unfortunately his cat did not make it as it was trapped in
its carrier. He had driven not more than a couple hundred yards from the
Ferry when this happened and while it was between 4 and 5AM this is the
Land of the Midnight Sun and it was not really dark though being Whittier
it was probably overcast and raining.
I find both maps and GPS to have their benefits and use both though my GPS
is only that which is on my iphone and not a stand alone system.
