I always had trouble with the control cables in my '82 westy. Stiff action and getting kinks etc. I spent a fair bit of time trying to make things work better - making sure the ends were correctly secured, following bentley, lubricating, even adding helper springs at the ends - but never did get them to work as nicely as the ones in my '86. Those work perfectly well, some magic sauce must have been added. Cable re-desing or something.
