They were not allowed for sale due to emissions non-compliance and the only way to register one here is if you move here and show that you have already owned for over 12 months then you can get an exemption. This is true in a number of Northeast states that adopted the California standards for new vehicles. When I purchased my diesel motorhome in 2004 they allowed it due to its weight and that it was not available in Gasoline power. The ultra-low sulfur diesel now at the pumps was phased in beginning I think in 2005 so that only it would be available for the 2007 model year engines with the fancy clean up equipment including after burners and special fluid injected into the exhaust catalysts. Currently I am down in Florida with the motorhome. On my way down I found Gasoline in South Carolina for $305.9. the lowest price I found for Diesel was $387.9. I've been paying about $4.00 and saw a number of stations at 4.29. Thank goodness I don't use fuel oil to heat my home! With direct injection and turbos (Ford eco boost) it is just a matter of time before we see more gasoline engines in smaller trucks. Talk to truckers that have newer rigs. The advanced technology stuff has many drawbacks. Not only do they get to pay more for Diesel fuel they get to buy that Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) at about $7 gallon. Heck.. people make good money bringing diesel cars into CA since for some years they were hard to get there new, or maybe not even for sale there new, in some years.
