They could fix the dents in the hood, but not at the price your insurance
company was willing to pay, so they had to refuse the job. If they had
received the hood direct from the junk yard they would have rejected it &
sent it back, just like he did with you. But the junk yard would have known
better than to send a hail damaged hood to a good body shop. I know David
and I suspect the crook in this case was someone at the junk yard.
But your driveway labor was "free".

I agree. I too live in Huntsville (Madison) and have had my van painting
priced at $3500 7 years ago or so. If you get a quote for less than $4000,
beware.
As far as David Allen, they are good, but when my mom crunched her Buick
hood, we got a price from them based on me supplying the hood part. Allen
got the part delivered by me, then discovered hail dings in it. They called
me to come get it. No compromise, no other way out. They refused the job,
saying it would be impossible to use the hood. I took it back and filled the
dings. I painted and clear coated it, and it came out perfect. These
lame-brains couldn't pull off what I was able to do in my driveway.
