well then, what paint and preparation process did you use, and how well did it hold up ? and glossy, flat, satin, etc. ?

what I like about Zero Rust spray paint ...I'm kinda a nut about colors and paint and all that.. it's the best spray paint I've ever found.. it doesn't run, it goes on thin .. takes several coats ...I use it on cast iron engine blocks .. I use it on waterboxer cooling system metal pipes . comes in a fantastic light blue ( plus gray, black, red, white ) ... isn't flat or glossy .....but 'just right'. and it really sticks to any well-cleaned metal surface.

paints vary a lot in quality...just any ole 'spray black' won't last too well. I use flat black stove paint on brake drums .. they don't rust that way ...same for wheel flanges , etc.

I paint all my exhaust systems in Flame Proof high temp exhasut paint .. first their primer, then the top coat ...in a light gray. They stay unrusted for quite a while that way, and are easy to touch up in placeon the van too.

I painted a set black back in 2006 and folks went crazy over them, no one would even realize they were just plain ol' Vanagon alloys until they took a closer look. Most would ask if they were off a Mercedes. I miss those wheels, and the van they were attached to as well!
